Astigmatism is another of the most common vision issues, causing blurred vision in those who suffer from it and sometimes severely impacting one’s quality of life. Cataracts are another very commonly-encountered vision issue, and refer to a condition that involves the clouding-over of the eye’s naturally occurring lens.
Cataract Surgery
Surgery for the correction of cataracts involves the removal of the lens that has become clouded over and obscured as a result of the condition. This obstructed lens is then replaced with an artificial one, commonly referred to as an IOL or an intraocular lens.
Standard lenses can be used, which tend to offer clear vision when viewing things at a distance, but often require glasses for up-close activities, such as reading.
Premium lenses, on the other hand, are designed to function both ways, offering clear vision both up-close and at a distance, and eliminating the need for further vision correction with things like glasses or contact lenses.
In some cases, the correction of astigmatism and cataracts can be performed at the same time, offering the patient more dramatic results, and a fuller restoration of their lost vision.
