Styes and chalazia are common eyelid conditions that cause localized swelling, irritation, and discomfort, often requiring targeted treatment when they persist or recur.
What Are Styes and Chalazia?
A stye (hordeolum) is an acute infection of an oil gland or hair follicle in the eyelid, typically presenting as a red, painful bump near the edge of the eyelid. A chalazion, on the other hand, is a blocked oil gland that leads to a firm, painless lump within the eyelid.
While it may start as a stye, a chalazion often becomes a chronic condition if not properly treated. Although these conditions are common, they can become persistent or recurrent without appropriate care.
