Your Child’s “Red Eye” in Photos is a Good Thing!
- Posted on: Jan 29 2016
The red eyes that you often see in photos are called a ‘red reflex’, are caused by the reflection of light off they eye’s retina. You’ll be surprised to learn that some ocular cancers can be detected from the missing red reflex in a photo!
A sign of concern is seeing a white reflex in one eye, and a red reflex in the other in your child’s photos. While not always a sign of serious problems, it is recommended to get your child’s eyes checked as soon as possible if you notice such signs.
A free app by the name CRADLE now exists to help detect white eye in photos of your child and can also be used as an ophthalmoscope to test your child’s red reflex.
